SnowDayMeter

About SnowDayMeter

SnowDayMeter is a free snow day calculator: a ZIP code in, the chance of a school closure out, with every reason written down. It exists because the sites that came before it return a number with no explanation and fall over on the nights they are needed most.

Where the data comes from

Hourly forecasts from Open-Meteo (open data, blended from NOAA, ECMWF and national services), active alerts from the US National Weather Service, and a per-state closure threshold we maintain from district practice. The model is published in full on the how it works page and scored on the accuracy page.

Not a decision

The meter gives a probability. Your district decides, usually between 4 and 6 am, and it knows things a forecast cannot. Read the terms.

How the site is funded

Display advertising during the winter, placed below the result and never between the input and the number. No sponsored readings.
